Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate (PCOC)

Crossing the border? Canadian Power and Sail Squadron is a provider of safe boating courses approved by both Transport Canada and the U.S. National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.

All operators of motorized pleasure craft are required to show proof of operator competency. By taking this course provided by the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, you will learn everything you need to be prepared for the Transport Canada test.  The material included in the study guide meets all the standards established by Transport Canada’s Office of Boating Safety.

As an extra benefit, if you pass the test offered by Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons, your Card is recognized by BOTH Transport Canada and The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (USA).

Proof of competency indicates the boater has a basic level of boating safety knowledge required for safe recreational boating. In the past, anyone of any age could operate a recreational boat without any minimum boating safety knowledge, experience or training. These requirements were introduced in 1999 in response to boating deaths and injuries, with the goal of improving safety on Canadian waterways through education and training.
